YoungMinds partnership announced

Create Development are delighted to announce a new partnership with mental health charity YoungMinds.

YoungMinds is the UK’s leading charity fighting for a future where all young minds are supported and empowered, whatever the challenges. Create Development support over 6,700 schools to develop the whole child through PE. This new partnership will promote YoungMinds 360° schools’ resources to teachers helping them support the mental health and wellbeing of all children.

Since YoungMinds was established, there has been a much needed shift in the conversation around mental health and, vitally, the crisis in children’s and young people’s mental health is now widely recognised.

NHS research conducted in 2017 found one in eight1 children have a diagnosable mental health disorder – that’s roughly three children in every classroom. In addition, there are currently gaps in early support for young people with mental health problems, according to the charity. In a survey of over 7,000 young people under 25 who have looked for mental health support2, two-thirds of respondents said that they had been unable to find mental health support when they first needed it, and three-quarters had had to manage their mental health on their own when they couldn’t find help elsewhere.

Ronnie Heath, Managing Director at Create Development said:
“When three children in every classroom will have a mental health problem, we need approaches that develop essential skills of resilience and critical thinking to help them cope with life’s challenges. real PE supports health and wellbeing for every child at a preventative level through building confidence and self esteem and developing positive relationships. We are therefore delighted to have formed a partnership with the UK’s leading charity, YoungMinds. YoungMinds offers teachers, parents/carers and children the best professional expert advice to support children’s and young people’s mental health. The combined expertise of YoungMinds and real PE has the potential to be an extraordinary and powerful partnership. Working together, we aim to develop a holistic approach to children’s health and wellbeing and enable them to face life’s challenges with confidence and courage.”

Sam Barry, Senior Corporate Fundraising Officer at YoungMinds said:
“We know how important wellbeing is to teachers and parents but it can often be difficult to know where to start. We are delighted to be partnering with Create Development and we hope that working with them, more teachers will have access to our 360° Schools’ resources to help build the skills and the knowledge to make mental health and wellbeing a core part of young people’s lives.”
